Title: The Role of Translation in the Sinicization of Buddhism
Abstract: The influence of Indian civilization on Chinese civilization was realized through Buddhism, and Buddhism was introduced into China and sinicized by means of translation. Thus the significance of translations of Buddhist scriptures is self-evident.However,it is not self-evident what role translation played in the introduction of Buddhism into China, and how these influences occurred. No matter how Buddhist doctrines were adapted to the value of Central Plains, and what means of transmission and mechanism of translation were adopted for the doctrines and scriptures to be compatible with the concrete conditions of Central Plains, translations of Buddhist scriptures made important contributions to the growth of Chinese civilization.
