Title: Treatment of ureteral calcui with transureteroscopic holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy
Abstract: [ Objective] To evaluate the safety and therapeutic effect of transureteroscopic holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy for treatment of ureteral calcui. [Methods] Transureteroscopic holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy was used in 46 patients with 49 ureteral calcui cases between Nov. 2003 and Sept. 2004. [Results] Holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy was successfully achieved in 40 cases with 43 sides. The overall successful stone fragmantation rate of urteral calcui was 87.8% (43/49). Stone migration occured in 3 cases, 2 of them required ESWL post-operation. Incomplete fragmentation occurred in 1 case and required another transureteroscopic holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy. Ureteral perforation occured in 2 cases. Mean post-operation hospitalization time was 3.5 days. [Conclusions] Transureteroscopic holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy is a safe, efficient, minimally invasive and swift recovery method for the treatment of ureteral calcui
