Title: Clinical significance of measurement of serum homocysteine and C-reactive protein level in patients with acute coronary syndrome
Abstract: Objective To measure the level of serum homocysteine(Hcy) in patients with acute coronary syndromes(ACS) and to discuss the relationship between serum Hcy,CRP level and severity of ACS.Methods 124 ACS patients were divided into two groups: 66 cases of unstable angina(UA) and 58 cases of acute myocardial infarction(AMI).Fifty-seven individuals were chosen as normal control.Level of serum Hcy and CRP was measured in all groups. Results Level of serum Hcy in UA group(16.08±5.17) μmol/L and AMI group(21.67±7.38) μmol/L were significantly higher than that in normal control(10.11±4.15) μmol/L,(P0.05).The difference was significant when UA group was compared with AMI group(P0.05).Level of CRP in UA group(29.65±15.87) mg/L and AMI group(58.14±21.17) mg/L were significantly higher than that in normal control(8.06±4.86) mg/L(P0.01).The difference was significant when UA group was compared with AMI group(P0.05).Conclusion Level of serum Hcy and CRP in ACS patients increases significantly if compared with normal control. The measurement of serum Hcy and CRP level could play an important role in the prevention, treatment and monitoring for ACS.
