Title: Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty's Court and the Passages Around the Exterior and the Interior of the Double-walled Imperial City
Abstract: The construction of double-walled imperial cities was extremely thriving in the reign of the Emperor of Xuanzong. With imperial palaces conducting to the interior passages around the imperial city, the guarding and the political system of the court made up a wholesome body of administration. The construction of the double-walled imperial city started in the reign of Empress of Wu, the gate to her Shangyang Palace leading to the interior passages around the imperial city. Emperor of Xuanzong, who seized the throne through complicated political struggles, nursed a much stronger consciousness of the absolute safety of interior his court. The double-walled imperial city was multi-functioned, convenient for the emperor to make a trval or an escape, effective in watching the kings and useful to eunuches to act as the emperor's watching-dogs. Thus, it was not surprising that interactions within and without the imperial city were increasing daily.
