Abstract:Objectives To explore the influencing factors of acid fast bacillus detection in the sputum smears of tuberculosis patients.Methods 79803 sputum samples and 3750 bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples c...Objectives To explore the influencing factors of acid fast bacillus detection in the sputum smears of tuberculosis patients.Methods 79803 sputum samples and 3750 bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples collected from Decembers.2009 to 2011 were respectively detected by direct smear microscopy and medium-based bacteria-enrichment smear microscopy,and then the positive detection rate of acid-fast bacilli was analyzed.Results In comparison with direct smear microscopy,medium-based bacteria-enrichment smear microscopy increased the detection rate of acid-fast bacilli up to 2.94% in sputum samples and up to 8.22% in bronchofiberscope and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples.The detection rate of acid-fast bacilli by medium-based bacteria-enrichment smear microscopy in bronchofiberscope and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples was significantly higher than that in sputum samples.Conclusions In addition to the detection method,the quality of the sputum samples collected is an important influencing factor in improving acid fast bacillus detection rate in the sputum samples of tuberculosis patients.Read More
