METHODS: In a randomized, single blind, parallel controlled study, 59 patients with primary hypertension were divided into two groups. The diltiazem plus losartan group of 30 patients was treated with diltiazem 90 mg plus losartan 50 mg once daily. The diltiazem plus fosinopril group of 29 patients was given diltiazem 90 mg plus fosinopril once daily. The reduction of blood pressure(BP), the improvement of left ventricular remodeling and the safety were observed in the two groups. RESULTS: After 4 wk, treatment BP reduced significantly. At 12 wk, the mean reductions of systolic BP/diastolic BP were (2.1±0.3)/(2.1±0.4)kPa and (2.1±0.3)/(1.7±0.3)kPa, goal BP (12.0/18.6 kPa) achieved in 83 % and 86 % in the diltiazem plus losartan and ditiazem plus fosinopril, respectively. Left ventricular weight index decreased significantly after 12 wk treatment. There were not significant differences between the two groups in all of the parameters and adverse reactions. CONCLUSION: Like ditiazem plus fosinopril, diltiazem and losartan in combination for treatment of mild to moderate primary hypertension is effective, safe and well tolerated.Read More
