Title: Study on Phase-transfer-catalyzed Synthesis of o-ethoxyphenol
Abstract: Using polyethylene glycol( PEG-400) as phase transfer catalyst, catechol( C6H6O2) and ethyl bromide as main material, the process of o-ethoxyphenol systhesis are studied. With the yield of o-ethoxyphenod as the index, the effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, molar ratios of the materials and amount of catalyst( based on the weight of catechol) on the yield are investigated. The suitable technological conditions of the synthesis of o-ethoxyphenol under the catalyst PEG through orthogonal experiments and single factor experiments are determined: n( C6H6O2) ∶ n( NaOH) ∶ n( C2H5Br) = 1 ∶ 1. 2 ∶1. 2,the reaction temperature is 65 ℃,reaction time is 6 h,amount of catalyst is 2 %,the yield of o-ethoxyphenol reaches 65%. The process for the synthesis of o-ethoxyphenol under the catalyst PEG is of low cost, little pollution, easy and suitable for the industrial manufacture.
