Abstract: To master, apply and develop Marxism requires a clear demarcation between Marxist basic principles and its non-basic ones. The former represent Marxist social, historical and world view while the latter are the development and application of these principles; the former expose the universal law of development of human society while the latter produce the specific rules or conclusions. The most challenging and meaningful point is to analyze and solve practical problems according to Marxist basic principles, which can naturally promote the development of Marxism. Deng Xiaoping is an excellent example in this respect.
