Title: Three-dimensional analysis of the spatial position of craniofacial frame in adults with facial asymmetry by cone-beam CT
Abstract: Objective: To analysis the 3-dimensional position of skeletal frame of craniofacial frame in adults with facial asymmetry by cone-beam computerized tomography(CBCT).Methods: CT data accorded with Dicom 3.0 of 25 adults with facial asymmetry were collected by CBCT,and the CT images were reconstructed into 3D models by medical image processing software Mimics10.01.38 Anatomical landmarks were located and reference planes were established on the 3D models. The distance of landmarks to every reference planes were measured and analyzed by SPSS 17.0.Results: Some measurements of maxillary complex were found to be asymmetric, including orbitale, the lateral of apertura piriformis, zygomaticoalveolar ridge, the middle of cervical margin of upper canine and the upper first molar. No significant difference was observed in other measurements.Significant differences were observed in measurements of most mandibular landmarks.Only Condylion,Gonion and mandibular foramen were symmetry in certain directions. Conclusion: The extent of maxillofacial deformity increases from top to bottom of carniofacial frame in adults with facial asymmetry.Abnormal mandible morphology is the main clinical manifestation of asymmetry.Compensatory rotation occurres in the three-dimensional spatial structure of mandible.
