Title: The Imaging Characteristics of acute viral meningoencephalitis
Abstract: Objective To study the manifestation of acute viral meningoencephalitis on CT and MRI, and evaluate their value in diagnosis of acute viral meningoencephalitis. Methods Collect the imaging and clinical data of 43 cases with acute viral meningoencephalitis; CT and MRI were performed in all patients except for one who died and only underwent CT plain scan. Results Lesions in 32 cases were found by MRI, lesions in 19 cases were found by CT, and the lesions may locate in cerebrum, cerebellum and brainstem, predilection site of lesions are temporal lobe or frontal lobe; lesions diffused distribution, without remarkable occupied effect or low-grade occupied effcect, the lesions presented ill-defined low density on CT plain scan, it showed isointensity or hypointensity on T1WI of MRI, hyperintense on T2WI, DWI and T2WI Flair, signals of lesions obviously enhanced as gyrus. Conclusion MRI and CT can provide valuable imfomations for the diagnosis of acute viral meningoencephalitis. For diagnosing acute viral meningoencephalitis, MRI can be considered firstly.
