Title: Effect of Flag Leaf Orientation on Its Photosynthetic Capacity in Rice
Abstract: Compared with vertical flag leaf, horizontal flag leaf (Fig.1) of rice had a significantly higher net photosynthetic rate (Pn), carboxylation efficiency (CE), and significantly lower intercellular CO 2 concentration (Ci), but similar stomatal conductance (Gs) (Fig.2 and Fig.3). It appears that the leaf orientation has an important effect on the photosynthetic capacity in rice leaf, and the significantly higher Pn of horizontal flag leaf may be related to its higher RuBPCase content and activity due to much more irradiance to be absorbed during growth.
