Title: Transarterial chemoembolization combined with radiotherapy in treatment of 30 cases with advanced cardiac carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To investigate the treatment effects of transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) combined with radiotherapy on advanced cardiac carcinoma. Methods Sixty-seven patients with advanced cardiac carcinoma were randomly divided into two groups: 30 patients were treated by TACE plus radiotherapy, the radiation dose was 60-65 Gy,for 6-7 weeks (TACE+R), 37 patients received radical radiotherapy alone(R), the radiation dose was 70 Gy,for 7 weeks. The patients were followed up within 4 to 28 months and the improvements of clinical symptoms and image on barium meal were observed. Results The improvements of clinical symptoms were 100%(30/30) in TACE+R and 70.3%(26/37) in R group, with an obvious difference between those two groups(P 0.01). The improvements of obstruction on barium meal were 86.6%(26/30) in TACE+R and 70.3%(26/37) in R group (P 0.05). The 1-,2-year survival rates were 80%(24/30) and 40%(12/30) in TACE+R, 56.8%(21/37) and 29.7%(11/37) in R group, with the difference in 1-year survival rate between those two groups (P 0.05). Conclusion Radiotherapy combined with TACE was an effective method for advanced cardiac carcinoma.
