Title: Protective effects of icariin on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in mice
Abstract: Objective To investigate the protective effects of icariin on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I-R) injury in mice. Methods The mice were randomly assigned to sham operation group(S),model group(C) and, icariin treatment group(I).The model of transient cerebral I-R were established by unilateral occlusion of the common carotid artery in group C and S. The neurological functions were evaluated on the 1st,3rd,7th and 14th day after operation. The fresh ischemia cortex was taken out for the measurements of SOD and MDA. Results Compared with group S,the neurological function deficients were found in group C and I,which were improved more in group I than those in group C on the 7th and 14th day (P0.05 and P0.01).The level of SOD was decreased and MDA was increased more in group C than those in group on the 7th and 14th day(P0.05 and P0.01). Conclusion Icariin has the protective effects on cerebral I-R injury in mice, which may be related to its suppressing effect on oxidation stress.
