Title: Historical Inheritance and Contemporary Renaissance of Double Fifth Festival
Abstract: double Fifth Festival(known also as Dragon Boat Festival),originated from the ancient primitive belief, had preliminarily formed in the Warring States period. The primitive belief had provided sufficient motive power to festival custom at that time.Unfortunately, with the weakening of the effect of primitive belief in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the initial motive power of historical inheritance of the Festival had been diminished.Hence, new interpretations of the custom of the Festival were introduced by involving the commemoration of the legend of Qu Yuan and other historical figures, adding more cultural contents and customs to the Festival. However, due to neglect of family reunion and ancestor worship, which did not obviously meet the Confucius culture’s requirements, there was a problem of insufficient inheriting power of the Festival in the Confucianius time after the Wei and Jin Dynasties.Later in the modern society, the Festival encounters inheriting crisis. But,a conclusion could be achieved through study that the festival custom includes rich elements satisfying modern culture, and it could be adapted and updated to meet modern society.Under the scenarios of protection of intangible cultural heritage, the renaissance of the Festival could have more opportunities and motivations.
