Title: Health risk assessment of heavy metals of urban dusts from the Chengguan district of Lanzhou
Abstract: The urban dust samples were collected from many daily activity places of Chengguan district, Lanzhou. The content of heavy metals(Cu,Zn,Pb,Cr and Cd)in these urban dusts samples was detected and the human health risk assessment method established by USEPA was introduced to evaluate the non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks of heavy metals to children and adults. The results showed that concentrations of heavy metals were all higher than the soil background values of Gansu Province.Characteristics of non-carcinogenic risks were that the risk to children was higher than that to adults, the way of exposure was ingestiondermal takeninhalation, and Cr PbCuCdZn.The highest level of risks was related to the route of ingestion of dust particles and Cr and Cd were dominated elements. The total non-carcinogenic hazard index for adults was only 1.34×10-1,but for children it reached to 9.69×10-1 and was in close proximity to the safety threshold value(1.00).The carcinogenic risks of Cr and Cd were lower than the thresholds values(10-6-10-4).Thus,it was suggested that the health of children was hazarded potentially and the carcinogenic risk of heavy metals in urban dusts was light in Lanzhou.
