Abstract:[Objective] To evaluate the usefulness of BIS monitoring in outpatients undergoning gastroduodenoscopy under propofol anesthesia.[Methods] Sixty patients undergoing selective gastroduodenoscopy under ...[Objective] To evaluate the usefulness of BIS monitoring in outpatients undergoning gastroduodenoscopy under propofol anesthesia.[Methods] Sixty patients undergoing selective gastroduodenoscopy under propofol-fentanil anesthesia were randomly assigned to regular monitor plus BIS monitoring(group I,n=30)or regular clinical monitor(group II,n=30).In group I,propofol infusions were adjusted to achieve a target BIS of 40~60.In group II,propofol dose adjustments were made based only on clinical signs.Drug use,intraoperative responses,and recovery parameters were recorded.[Results] Both groups were comparable with respect to MAP,HR,SpO2,BIS before anesthesia(P 0.05).The amount of propofol used and time of recovery were significantly less in group I than that in group II(P 0.01),A MAP decrease of two groups was found during induction of anesthesia,however,the decrease level and the adverse effects were significantly less in group I than that in group II(P 0.01).[Conclusion] Titrating propofol with BIS monitoring during intravenous anesthesia for outpatient operation may prevent propofol under or over dose,keep hemodynamics stable and make recovery quicker.Read More
