Title: Expression of estrogen receptors and androgen receptors in benign prostatic hyperplasia prostate
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of estrogen receptors(ER) and androgen receptors(AR) in benign prostatic hyperplasis(BPH) and to explore the relationship between estrogen receptors(ER) /androgen receptors(AR) and benign prostatic hyperplasis(BPH).Methods Eighty patients with benign prostate hyperplasia aged 60-80 years and 40 controls with normal prostate were enrolled in this study. The levels of ER and AR were detected by immunohistochemical method. Results The positive staining rates of ER and AR in patients with 60-70 years old were significantly higher than those in controls(ER:P=0.010,AR:P0.000 1).The positive staining rate of ER in patients with 70-80 years old were significantly higher than that in controls(P=0.022).The positive staining rate of AR in prostate tissue showed no difference between the patients with 70-80 years old and the controls(P=0.108).The positive staining rates of ER and AR in two groups showed no statistical difference(ER:P=0.745,AR:P=0.055).Conclusion The high expression of ER and AR in tissues of benign prostatic hyperplasia may promote the occurrence of BPH.
