Title: Synthesis of isopropyl salicylicate using acid catalyst supported on granular active carbon
Abstract: Isopropyl salicylicate was synthesized using salicylic acid and i-propanol as raw materials and p-toluene sulphonic acid supported on granule activated carbon as the catalyst. The influencing factors of the reaction were investigated. Experimental results indicated that isopropyl salicylicate yield of 94.45% was attained under the optimum condition of esterification reaction as follows:n (salicylic acid):n(isopropanol) =1: 3.0, reaction time of 3.0h, catalyst dosage 4.6% of total mass of the reactants, water carrying agent 8mL.
