Title: Recognition of Steinbeck from literary journalism
Abstract: Although studies of literary journalism originated from the new journalism prevailed in 1960s and 1970s,the practices of literary journalism had been in existence earlier.Fact-finding and literary techniques, have been the two major features of John Steinbeck's persistent writing style. While checking Once There Was a War over, the essay sees that it not only deploys John Steinbeck's writing style, but also presents itself as a perfect pro forma demonstration of the writing principles of literary journalism—the much-later-born literary school. Therefore John Steinbeck can be viewed as one of the forerunners of American literary journalism and his Once There Was a War can be cited as one of the outstanding examples of that literary trend.
