Title: Comparison of Cypher drug-eluting stent and Bx-sonic bare stent implanted following emergency percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction
Abstract: AIM To compare the safety and efficacy of Cypher drug-eluting stent and Bx-sonic stent implanted after the emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEAMI). METHODS Eighty-two patients with STEMI were treated by emergency PCI within 12 hours, with Cypher drug-eluting stent implanted in 50 cases group and Bx-sonic stent in 32 cases. The in-hospital baseline data and the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in follow-up period were evaluated. RESULTS No significant difference was observed in the in-hospital cardiac events between the Cypher stent group and the Bx-sonic stent group . During the follow-up period (mean 6.2±2.3 months), the occurrence rates of angina pectoris in the Cypher stent group were lower than those in the Bx-sonic stent group(5% vs 21%, P0.01). The survival rate without MACE in the Cypher stent group was higher than that in the Bx-sonic stent group(95% vs 78%, P0.01)The in-stent restenosis rate was lower in the Cypher stent group. But no significant difference was found in the occurrence rate of cardiac events and cardiac death between the groups. CONCLUSION Implantation of Cypher drug-eluting stent after the emergency PCI is as safe and effective as the conventional bare stent in patients with STEAMI.
