Title: An Analysis of Translating Chinese Address Terms into English Ones from the Perspective of Culture
Abstract: Address terms are the shared phenomena of each language and its culture, which embody the common characteristics of human languages. Address terms between Chinese and English have the shared culture, but they also have its respective features and language customs. There are huge differences between Chinese address terms and English ones. There is a close relationship to culture when Chinese address terms are translated into English ones. This thesis first explains the relationship between culture and language, and between translation and culture. Then it explores the translating methods of the Chinese address terms from the view of the cultural similarities and dissimilarities between Chinese address terms and English ones. The translation methods include imitation, illumination and desalination of culture.
