Title: Treatment of primary hepatic carcinoma by radio frequency thermal ablation under the guidance of ultrasonography
Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of multi electrode radio frequency thermal ablation under the guidance of ultrasonography on primary hepatic carcinoma. Methods Fifty four cases of primary hepatic carcinoma were undergone multi electrode radio frequency thermal ablation under the guidance of ultrasonography. The imaging and size of tumor, intratumor blood flow, AFP level in serum, and survival rate were observed before and after the ablation. Results Tumor areas were turned into spotty uneven echo from equal, hyper or hypoechoic imaging in pretreatment.Doppler examination showed that intratumor blood flow almost disappeared 1~2 weeks after ablation in 46 cases. Blood AFP level in 31 out of 38 cases with AFP positive were turned negative and 4 cases showed declining tendency within 2~6 weeks, the effective rate of therapy was 92.1 %.CT or ultrasonography examination showed that the tumor size in 47 cases of 54 patients ( 87.0% ) decreased more than 25% in area 3 months after therapy .All of the patients were followed up, with 52 patients surviving more than 3 months, the longest 7 months. Conclusions Multi electrode radio frequency thermal ablation is a new effective way for the treatment of primary hepatic carcinoma.
