Title: Effects of Sowing Date on the Biomass and Quality of Sweet Sorghum at Different Growth Stages
Abstract:With sweet sorghum Tianza No.2 as tested material,the effects of sowing date on the growth period and green leaf number,biomass,sugar content,crude protein and crude fiber of sweet sorghum at differen...With sweet sorghum Tianza No.2 as tested material,the effects of sowing date on the growth period and green leaf number,biomass,sugar content,crude protein and crude fiber of sweet sorghum at different growth stages were studied.The results showed that the growth period became short with the delay of sowing date.At dough and full ripe stage,the biomass of the second and forth sowing dates were significantly higher than that of the other two sowing dates.The green leaf number of the second sowing date was always the highest during the whole growth period.The sugar content gradually decreased with the delay of sowing date.The crude fiber content of different sowing dates presented up-down or up-down-up trend.The effect of sowing date on crude protein content was not significant.At spring sowing area of sweet sorghum in North China,especially in Tianjin area,the optimum sowing date was May 11th or so.And the processing period of sweet sorghum could be extended to nearly three months by interval sowing.Read More
