Title: Influence of Relative Humidity on Pyrophoricity of Iron Sulfides
Abstract: Iron sulfides can be generated when iron oxide which is the predominant corrosion product in oil storage tank reacts with hydrogen sulfide at room temperature without oxygen. The oxidation heat of the iron sulfides is regarded as the main cause of tank fire. The influence of water on forming of iron sulfides and the influence of different relative humidity on pyrophoricity of iron sulfides were examined at 75℃.The influence of different conditions on pyrophoricity of iron sulfides was analyzed through the temperature-time curves of oxidation of Fe2O3 sulfurization product. The results showed that at higher temperature, the presence of water was an important factor which could influence Fe2O3 sulfurization.Iron sulfide is easy to self-ignite at the relative humidity from 10% to 15%,which is hazardous to oil storage tank.
