Title: Antibiotic resistance and erythromycin resistance related genes investigation of isolated Streptococcus pneumoniae
Abstract: Objective To investigate drug susceptibility and erythromycin resistance genes of isolated Streptococcus(S.) pneumoniae from Southwest Hospital. Methods S.pneumoniae were collected from clinic wards from January 2004 to December 2005.Antibioltic sensitivity test was done by using K-B method.Genes related to erythromycin resistance such as ermB,mefA were detected by PCR.Results In all 129 strains, the susceptibility rate of penicillin were 42.4%;the resistance rate of erythromycin were 80.6%;the positive rate of ermB and mefA gene were 97.1%,41.3%,respectively in 104 strains erythromycin resistanced S.pneumoniae.Both ermB and mefA gene were found in 41 strains. Conclusion Antibiotic resistance of S.pneumoniae in local region were high.S.pneumoniae at this region was erythromycin resistant by ermB gene.
