Title: Investigation of the Acquisition of English High-Frequency Words by Chinese Non-English Major College Students
Abstract: This paper presents the results of an investigation of the acquisition of English high-frequency words by Chinese non-English major college students.The results indicate that(1) The high-frequency vocabulary size of the students is about 1966 words out of a list of 3000 high-frequency words after 7 years' English study;(2) There is a significant difference in vocabulary proficiency among students of different English language levels,between male and female students and between students coming from the city and the countryside;(3) High-frequency vocabulary proficiency has different degrees of positive correlation with students' college entrance English scores,awareness of the importance of learning high-frequency vocabulary,the time spent on learning vocabulary,mechanical memory and,the judgment on the difficulty of English textbooks.
