Title: THE EFFECTS OF GUIYUAN TABLETS ON MORPHINE-INDUCED BEHAVIORAL SENSITIZATION IN MICE
Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effects of Guiyuan tablets, a composite of traditional Chinese medicine, on morphine-induced sensitization. Methods: Locomotor activity was measured every 5 minutes for 1 hour immediately after administration with Guiyuan tablets in mice. Mice were made behavioral sensitization to morphine by subcutaneous injection of 20 mg·kg -1 morphine once daily for 7 days, and treated with the combination of morphine (sc) and Guiyuan tablets (ig) to investigate the effects of Guiyuan tablets on the sensitization to morphine. Results: (1) Guiyuan tablets dose-dependently inhibited the locomotor activity in mice; (2) Guiyuan tablets obviously blocked the development and expression of behavioral sensitization to morphine in mice, but did not affect the transfer of behavioral sensitization. Conclusion: Guiyuan tablets have inhibitory effects on central nervous system and suppress the development of morphine addiction behavior. These findings indicate that Guiyuan tablets may be of interferential potential to psychological dependence on morphine in clinic.
