Title: Characteristics of Microclimate within Three Typical Subalpine Forests in Southwestern China
Abstract: Solar radiation, air temperature, air relative humidity and soil temperature of 5 cm and 15 cm deep soil layers within the typical subalpine forests, including Betula platyphylla(2 540 m a.s.l.),Abies faxoniana(2 600 m a.s.l.) and Picea purpurea(2 920 m a.s.l.) forests located at Wanglang National Nature Reserve(103° 55′~104°10′E,32°49′~33°02′N)in southwestern China, were continuously monitored in situ for three growing seasons(May to October) by using automatic weather stations which provided 15 min microclimate data. The daily course of solar radiation, and the total radiation amounts of a day and a month were markedly different under the B.platyphylla,A.faxoniana and P.purpurea forest canopies. All the growing season, the total radiation amounts under B.platyphylla,A.faxoniana and P.purpurea forest canopies were only 47.66(±9.08)%,20.65(±1.74)% and 11.42(±4.01)% of the total radiation at open site, respectively.Daily course, daily and monthly mean temperatures of different soil layers were markedly different within the B.platyphylla,A.faxoniana and P.purpurea forests. There was no significant linear correlation between daily mean air temperature, soil temperature and total radiation of a day.The linear correlation between daily mean air temperature and soil temperature, and between the mean temperature of 5 cm deep soil layer and soil mean temperature of 15 cm deep soil layer, were markedly significant. In the growing season(totalling 184 days),the total days of daily mean air temperature above 4.0℃ under B.platyphylla,A.faxoniana and P.purpurea forest canopies were 150,148 and 125.The total days of daily mean temperature above 4.0℃ of 5 cm deep soil layer were 184,184 and 151,and the total days of temperature above 4.0℃ of 15 cm deep soil layer were 184,184 and 145 under B.platyphylla,A.faxoniana and P.purpurea forest canopies.
