Title: Meta-analysis of clinical efficacy of paroxetine vs amitriptyline in the treatment of depression
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the efficacy of paroxetine vs amitriptyline in the treatment of depression.Methods 15 studies meeting our criteria were analyzed with the use of evidence-based medicine method,with the curative efficacy such as the effective rate,curative rate and the change in symptoms of paroxetine vs amitriptyline evaluated comparatively.Results The paroxetine was significantly better than amitriptyline in curative rate(215 /421 vs 183 /430,RR=1.19,95% CI 1.04 ~ 1.36,Z = 2.51,P 0.05),but there was no significant difference in effective rate(342 /421 vs 328 /430,RR = 1.05,95% CI 0.99 ~ 1.12,Z = 1.65,P 0.05)and the symptom improvement in paroxetine was similar to amitriptyline.Conlusions There is no significant difference in effective rate and the symptom improvement,but the paroxetine has better curative rate than amitriptyline for depression.
