Title: Experimental research and design suggestion on cold-formed wall-stud structures subject to centric axial loads
Abstract: Cold-formed steel wall-stud structures are vertical load bearing units in light-gauge steel houses. These structures are composed of stud and track connected by self-drilling screws. It has different types of bracing, such as steel belt bracing, channel steel bracing and X-shape steel belt bracing. The full-scale tests are carried out in this research for the wall-stud structures with C-type cross section stud which subject to centric axial loads. The results show that the ultimate load of braced stud is at most 20 percent higher than that of non-bracing stud. The failure modes of the stud are flexural buckling and torsion-flexural buckling. The effective length factor of the stud constrained by track and bracing is suggested to be 0.8 by studying the errors between the results of the test and those from design specifications which are currently used.
