Title: Karyotypes of Two Species of the Genus Babylonia
Abstract: Babylonia aerolata and B.Lutosa are two commonly commercially important species among the members of the Lvory Shell genus Babylonia. The karyotypes of the chromosomes of these two species were examined by the colchicines-hypotonic-air drying-giemsa staining method. The karyotype formulae of Babylonia areolata was 2n=66=32m+20sm+8st+6t,and NF was found to be 118.The karyotype formulae of Babylonia lutosa was 2n=66=30m+22sm+8st+6t,and NF was found to be 118.The secondary constriction, satellites and sex chromosomes were not observed.Furthermore, the comparison of karyotype is also made between different species of Buccinidae family,so as to lay a theoretic foundation for further researches on their evolutional relationship.
