Title: Integrated Aerodynamic/Structural Design of a Wing Using Collaborative Optimization
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate if collaborative optimization (CO) can be applied to the integrated aerodynamic/structural design of a wing. Two kinds of collaborative optimizations, the standard collaborative optimization and the response surface based collaborative optimization, are formulated and discussed. The design of a wing of light airplane is used as a test problem. The key issue of the investigation is how to formulate the integrated aerodynamic/structural design of the wing as multidisciplinary design optimization using the collaborative optimization. The numeric results indicate that the standard collaborative optimization cannot be successfully applied to the integrated aerodynamic/structural design of a wing, while he response surface based collaborative optimization solve the design problem successfully and robustly.
