Abstract:Objective:To study the relation between cognitive impairment and brain structure of patients with chronic alcoholism through assessing the cognitive impairment of the patients.Methods:Thirty two patie...Objective:To study the relation between cognitive impairment and brain structure of patients with chronic alcoholism through assessing the cognitive impairment of the patients.Methods:Thirty two patients with chronic alcoholism and 30 normal controls were assessed with WMS,and WAIS,hippocampal volume and temporal Kok ventricle width were measured,the results of the two groups were compared,and the correlation was analyzed.Results:The experimental group IQ(86.88±s 3.14) and memory quotient(59.31±s 5.69)were significantly lower than those of the control group(103.00±s 5.75,80.13±s 4.05),with every factor scale being significantly lower than those of the control group;the hippocampal volume of the experimental group was much smaller,and the temporal Kok ventricle widths was significantly larger.The structural abnormalities in patients had obvious correlation with age,the time of alcohol consumption,the time of alcohol addiction,and the age began to drink alcohol habitually.Conclusion:Patients with chronic alcoholism have significant cognitive impairment and brain structural abnormality,and there are certain correlations between them.Read More
