Title: Effects of Monomer on the CMC and Surface Tension of Dodecyl Sodium Sulfate
Abstract: In this paper, the critical micelle concentration(CMC) of dodecyl sodium sulfate(SDS) in the presence of different kind and concentration of monomer were measured at 30℃.The results showed that the CMC of SDS decreased remarkably when added hydrophilic monomer AA,whereas increased with the increasing of HEMA level. When added these two kinds of hydrophilic monomer to the system the CMC decreased also. The influence of hydrophobic monomer styrene(St) on the CMC of SDS was not obvious. The surface tensions of these systems were measured by a surface tension meter. It indicated that adding either AA or HEMA could reduce the surface tension of the system, and adding both hydrophilic monomers reduced the surface tension even more. The hydrophobic monomer St reduced the surface tension dramatically.
