Title: In vitro antibacterial activities of piperacillin-sulbactam(4∶1)
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the antibacterial activity in vitro of piperacillin-sulbactam(4∶1). Methods Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) were measured by agar dilution method. Results Piperacillin-sulbactam(4∶1) is an effective antibiotic containing β-lactamases inhibitor to the most gram-positive Cocci and gram-negative Bacillus in this study. The antibacterial activity of piperacillin-sulbactam(4∶1), especially against methicillin susceptible Staphyloccus aureus and methicillin susceptible Staphyloccus epidermidis of producing β-lactamses, Haemophilus influenza and Moraxella catarrh of producing β-lactamses, E. coli and Klebsiella pneumonia not producing extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs), E. coli and Klebsiella pneumonia producing ESBLs, E. cloacae easy to producing AmpC, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumanii was better than piperacillin, the MIC_ 50 or MIC_ 90 respective was 1/2~1/32 or 1/2~1/64 of piperacillin. The susceptibility of piperacillin-sulbactam(4∶1),cefperazone/sulbactam,piperacillin/tazobactam against E. coli producing ESBLs respective was 60.0%,66.7% and 76.7%; Klebsiella pneumoniae producing ESBLs respective was 56.7%,63.3% and 63.3%;Pseudomonas aeruginosa respective was 72.0%, 72.0% and 76.0%;Acinetobacter baumanii respective was 76.0%,82.0% and 52.0%. Conclusion Piperacillin-sulbactam(4∶1) is an effective anti- biotic containing β-lactamases inhibitor.
