Abstract: In the system of Chinese traditional morality,Yi is an important virtue.Mencius equals the virtue of Yi as the virtue of Ren,and in the Confucian five constant norms and four dimensionalities of Guanzi's thought,Yi stands in the second line.In the explanation of Yi,seemliness,Yi means good, right or seemliness as a prevalent valuable judgment. But Yi has the meaning of justness, logos and standard in ethics. The essential moral content of Yi includes the order of rank, the justness of the world, the obligation of role and the consciousness of duty. The debate of Ren is inner and Yi in outer in the history shows Yi is both subjective and objective ethical spirit. The traditional virtue of Yi is of significance in our social life and moral construction.
