Title: Expression of basic fibroblast growth factor and fibroblast growth factor receptor-1 in human meningiomas
Abstract: Objective To investigate the extent of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR 1) expression in human meningiomas and the relationship between the expression and the tumors' histological features and recurrence. Methods Expression of bFGF and FGFR 1 were examined by immunohistochemical technique. Results There is varied degree expression of bFGF and FGFR 1 protein in meningiomas. The expression correlates with the tumors' histological characters and recurrence. Conclusion FGFR 1 and bFGF may play an important role in meningiomas' proliferation. The over expression of bFGF and FGFR 1 reflects the proliferative activity of tumor. bFGF and FGFR 1 may be considered as indicators in meningiomas' histological characters and postoperative recurrence.
