Title: The Japanese International Stndents and the Diplomats to the Tang Dynasty
Abstract: The paper studies primarily the issues of the Japanese diplomats to the Tang Dynasty involved in the epigraph of a Japanese international student in the Tang Dynasty collected by the Museum of Northwest University. The paper analyses the historical setting in which the ancient Japanese governments sent a lot of Japanese students to China for advanced study with Japanese diplomats to Tang Dynasty. The paper discusses the treatment and the life of the Japanese students studying in China. The paper also describes the educational experience of some famous Japanese international students and monks, such as Abe Nakamaro, and points out the significance of the discovery of the epigraph of Yi Shinsei, a Japanese student studying in Tang Dynasty.
