Title: Preparation of the Chitosan/Activated Carbon Composite Adsorbent and Its Adsorption for Methylene Blue
Abstract: [Objective] The research aimed to study preparation of the chitosan/activated carbon complex adsorbent and its adsorption behavior for methylene blue.[Method] PAC and C-CTS were used to prepare complex adsorbent to adsorb methylene blue.Dynamics and isotherm of the adsorption process were also studied.[Result] The optimum conditions for preparation of the composite adsorbent were as follows: ratio between chitosan and activated carbon of 1∶3,crosslinking agent(50% glutaraldehyde) amount of 5 ml/g(chitosan),the temperature of 70 ℃,and the crosslinking time of 2 h.Furthermore, the optimum conditions for adsorption of the methylene blue by the composite adsorbent: temperature of 50 ℃,adsorbent amount of 5 g/100 ml(methylene blue of 20 mg/L),and adsorption time of 2 h.Under the condition, the removal rate of methylene blue reached beyond 97%.Good regeneration of the adsorbent could be obtained with NaOH as the agent. The kinetic study of adsorption process showed that the process coincided with the second order kinetic equation. The study on adsorption isotherm indicated that Freundlich model could describe the process properly.[Conclusion] The research could provide reference for treatment of the wastewater with methylene blue, and had a certain practical and theoretical significance.
