Title: The correlation between vegetation spatial pattern and environmental factors
Abstract: In mountainous areas, the vegetation spatial patterns are strongly affected by topography and other environmental factors. The objective is to reveal the relationship between environmental factors and vegetation spatial pattern in the Meili Snow Mountain which is a typical steep mountain area.GIS and RS were used to develop a database of the vegetation spatial distribution data including varied environmental factors.CCA was used to analyze the correlation between the vegetation spatial distribution pattern and environmental factors, such as elevation, slope, aspect, index of moisture, canopy index, and temperature. The results showed that elevation, canopy index, index of moisture, temperature, and aspect are the main factors which affected the distribution spatial pattern of the vegetation in Meili Snow Mountain.Elevation showed a remarkable negative relevant relation with the index of moisture and temperature, but had little correlation with aspect. The results also indicated that the index of moisture derived from DEM data could not represent the surface moisture distribution pattern of this area, because the local climate especially the precipitation is strongly affected by the topography, the southwest monsoon and Fohn wind.
