Abstract:The Kevlar fibers were treated by phosphorous acid(PA) solutions of different concentrations.The surface properties of the treated Kevlar fiber and the interfacial properties of the fiber/epoxy resin ...The Kevlar fibers were treated by phosphorous acid(PA) solutions of different concentrations.The surface properties of the treated Kevlar fiber and the interfacial properties of the fiber/epoxy resin composites were investigated.The results show that the amount of the oxygenous functional groups on the surface reaches a max-imum after being treated with 20 wt% PA solution.The amount of the oxygenous functional groups and the surface roughness decrease as the concentration of PA solution increases,but the filament strength rises.After being treated with 20 wt% PA solution,the interlaminar shear strength(ILSS) of Kevlar fiber/epoxy composites reaches 62 MPa and the interfacial shear strength(IFSS) of Kevlar fiber/epoxy composites increases by 18%.The amount of the functional groups on the fiber surface and the surface roughness are the crucial factors to improve interfacial properties of Kevlar fiber/epoxy composites.Read More
