Abstract: Wei(为) is always attached to the endings of some monosyllabic adverbs in the history of Chinese language.In this way,wei(为) becomes a suffix but the meaning and function of the monosyllabic adverb remain the same as before.This kind of wei(为) is a suffix and probably derives from the verb wei(为).
