Abstract: In the literature of newly-founded China there have existed many works describing and portraying the Japanese. These works can be categorized into two types. One type is based on the historical facts of Sino-Japanese Wars.As literary works, they reproduce the hard and bitter process of the Chinese fighting against aggression. In the narration, most works of this type indirectly portray the Japanese as a whole and reflect a nation's grief and memory. This becomes the images of the Japanese for the contemporary Chinese. The other type directly portrays the Japanese as an individual, who are kind and decent. This reflects Sino-Japanese friendship and shows that the Chinese highly value Sino-Japanese friendship. These works are not only one of the sources for the Chinese to know Japan and the Japanese but also the constituents of this knowledge. They have been fairly influential to Sino-Japanese relationship.
