Title: The Expression and Significance of HMGB1 and VEGF - C Protein in Human Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression and significance of HMGB1 and VEGF-C in human cervical squamous cell carcinoma(CSCC).Methods The expression of HMGB1 and VEGF-C were monitored by immunohistochemical staining in 76 cases with CSCC,15 cases with CIN III(cervical intraepithelial neoplasia) and 15 cases with normal cervical squamous epithelial tissue samples. The relationships between their expression and the clinical pathological parameters of CSCC were analyzed. Results From normal cervical squamous epithelial tissue,CIN III to CSCC,the positive rates of HMGB1 showed an increased trend(P 0.01).The expression of HMGB1 was significantly higher in patients with advanced stage, lymphatic metastasis and bigger size of the tumor(P 0.05) in CSCC.From normal cervical squamous epithelial tissue,CIN III to CSCC,the positive rate of VEGF-C showed an increase trend(P 0.01).The expression of VEGF-C was significantly higher in patients with advanced stage, lymphatic metastasis, bigger size of the tumor and lower differentiative squamous carcinoma(P 0.05) in CSCC.The expression of HMGB1 was positively correlated with the expression of VEGF-C(P 0.01).Conclusion HMGB1 and VEGF-C protein were over-expressed in CSCC.Their over-expression might play a critical role in the initiation, progression, invasion and lymphatic metastasis of CSCC.
