Title: Antimicrobial Activity of Scutellaria Baicalensis Georgi and HPLC Analysis
Abstract: A crude extract of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (huang-qin) (SC) was partitioned with n-hexane(SC1),ethyl acetate(SC2),n-butanol(SC3)and water(SC4).The antimicrobial activities of the crude extract and four sub-fractions were reported. The antimicrobial assays included well difussion assay and growth inhibition by broth dilution tests. The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of SC2,SC3 and SC4 for Escherichia Coli and Bacillus Subtilis were 2,2,2 mg/mL and 1,2,2 mg/mL respectively.HPLC analysis showed that the major substances of crude extract were baicalin, baicalein and wogonin; the major substances of SC2 were baicalein and wogonin; the major substances of SC3 were baicalin and baicalein;and the major substance of SC4 was baicalin.
