Title: Analysis of the curative effect and prognostic factors of early stage laryngeal squamous cell cancer treated by irradiation alone
Abstract: Objective To analyze the treatment results of radiotherapy alone for patients with early stage laryngeal squamous cell cancer(T1-T2N0M0) and the prognostic factors. Methods From Jun.2003 to Dec.2008,85 patients with T1-T2N0M0 squamous cell carcinoma of the glottis were treated by radiotherapy alone.Calculating survival rate by K-M,the Log-rank was used for univariate analysis,COX model was used for multivariate analysis. Results The 3 and 5 years overall survival rates(OS) for radiotherapy group(RT group) were 92.5%,82%.The 3 and 5 years local control rate(LC) were 82.5%,70%.Multivariate analysis revealed Multivariate analysis showed that age(P=0.02),stage(P=0.032) and the category of squamous cell carcinoma were adverse prognostic factors for OS.Univariate analysis showed: KPS score, age, stage, the category of squamous cell carcinoma and category were an important factor affecting the 5-years survival rate. Conclusions Radiotherapy alone can be the first treatment for patients with early stage laryngeal squamous cell cancer(T1-T2N0M0).KPS score, age, stage, the category of squamous cell carcinoma and category are the independent adverse prognostic factors for early stage laryngeal squamous cell cancer.
