Title: Influence of fluvastatin capsules on carotid atherosclerotic plaque in elderly patients
Abstract: Objective To investigate the influence of fluvastatin capsules on carotid atherosclerotic plaque in elderly patients. Methods Clinical data of 118 elderly patients with carotid atherosclerotic plaques treated in our hospital from January 2009 to January 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. The treatment group received fluvastatin(LaiShike,Beijing Novartis Pharma Ltd)40 mg,once a day, oral dinner or after dinner, aspirin 100 mg,once a day, taking 4 to 8 consecutive months, and conventional treatment of nimodipine, salvia, citicoline(intravenous administration)for 2 weeks. The control group received the same therapy as the treatment group except no fluvastatin was taken. Results In the treatment group, compared with the controls, plaque area significantly reduced from(0.20±0.16)cm2 before treatment to(0.13 ± 0.05)cm2,total cholesterol(TC),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)and triglycerides(TG)decreased, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)rose after fluvastatin capsule therapy for 6 months. Conclusion Fluvastatin capsule can significantly inhibit inflammation factors, improve endothelial function, and prevent the occurrence of acute cardiocerebrovascular diseases.
