Title: A study on the expression and correlation of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) between saliva and serum in patients with recurrent aphthous ulceration(RAU)
Abstract: Objective:To study the correlation of the concentrations of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)between saliva and serum in patients with recurrent aphthous ulceration(RAU).Methods:Thirty patients with light RAU and thirty healthy controls were recruited. The levels of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)were measured in both saliva and serum of patients with RAU and control subjects by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)and TNF-α standard curve. Results:The concentrations of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)in saliva and serum were significantly higher(P0.001)in patients with RAU than those in the control group.Furthermore,There was significant correlation between saliva and serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)in patients with RAU(r=0.826,P0.01).Conclusion:The present study demonstrates that there was significant correlation between saliva and serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)in patients with RAU.Treatment and lesions change can be detected by measuring the concentrations of TNF-α of saliva.
