Title: Study on synthesis of polyacrylate emulsion modified by silica sol via in-situ polymerization
Abstract: The silica sol-polyacrylate composite emulsion was synthesized via in-situ polymerization using MMA and BA as main monomers and a mixed emulsifier consisting of CO-436 and CO-897.The nano-silica sol surface was modified by silicon coupling agent(KH-560);and then the silica sol-polyacrylate emulsion with core-shell structure was synthesized via in-situ polymerization using APS as an initiator,AA and HEA as functional monomer by a semi-continuous polymerization technology.Based on this, the influencing factors such as polymerization temperature, amount of the initiator(APS),and mixed emulsifier as well as the ratio of CO-436 to CO-897,and the amount of SiO2 sol on the polymerization process were investigated. The results showed that the optimal emulsion polymerization temperature was about 75 ℃ for the seed emulsion polymerization of the first stage, and 85 ℃ for the core-shell emulsion polymerization of the second stage. When the amount of mixed emulsifier was 4.0% of the monomer, and the mass ratio of anion emulsifier to non-ionic emulsifier was 1 ∶3,sufficient emulsification, high monomer conversion and low gel rate for the polymerization system could be obtained. When the amount of nano-SiO2 silica sol was 8.0% of the monomer, solid content of obtained silica sol-polyacrylate composite emulsion was 40%,the stability of emulsion could meet the usage demands. The optimal amount of initiator(APS) was 0.4%~0.6% of the monomer for complete polyreaction, high monomer conversion and stable polymerization process.
