Title: Kinetic spectrophotometric determination of trace ruthenium (III) based on its catalytic effect on oxidation of xylene cyanol FF by potassium periodate
Abstract: In diluted H2SO4 and heating at 85 ℃,the discoloration reaction of xylene cyanol FF oxidized by potassium periodate can be greatly catalyzed by ruthenium (Ⅲ).According to this phenomenon,a new method for catalytic kinetic spectrophotometric determination of ruthenium (Ⅲ) has been developed.Optimum experimental conditions were discussed. The absorbency difference between non-catalytic reaction and catalytic reaction at 610 nm exhibited a good linear relationship with mass concentration of ruthenium (Ⅲ) in the range of 0.000-0.060 μg/ mL with detection limit of 2.697×10-10 g/mL.Kinetic parameters were determined. This reaction was considers as a pseudo-first order one.The apparent rate constant was 3.923×10-3 /s and apparent activated energy was 64.30 kJ/mol.In the application of this method to the determination of trace ruthenium(Ⅲ)in molecular sieve and active carbon samples, the recoveries of 102.0% and 103.2% were obtained respectively.
